Situated a convenient short few hours’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, Safari Plains redefines luxury in the bush. Safari Plains

RATES : are quoted per room per night, based on a maximum of two adults per room, or on a single basis.

Two safaris daily and VAT at 15%.

The selected alcoholic beverages included in the rate are available between 12h00 and 22h00 only.

TWENTY EXQUISITE TENTED SUITES

Set along the winding sand pathways, each of our breath-taking tented suites commands a stunning space within the natural, indigenous bushveld. 

Our safari-style tents offer utmost comfort and an opulent ambience with private timber wrap-around decks. There are six luxury tents that offer a larger main area and a private sala, which is perfect for lounging on a lazy afternoon. Please enquire should you wish to opt for these particular tented suites as they may be booked in advance. All our other tented suites are equally stylishly appointed, with sunken baths, separate showers, and private facilities. The hospitality armoire offers a fully–stocked mini bar fridge, with tea and coffee facilities. The air conditioning ensures that guests can enjoy year-round temperature-controlled tented accommodation. Proudly family-friendly, the ‘family style’ luxury tents offer a second bedroom with two twin beds.

SAFARI & ACTIVITIES 

CLASSIC SAFARIS

The varied habitats on the Greater Mabula Game Reserve provide ideal conditions for an astounding selection of large mammals including the Big Five. Other wildlife includes the nocturnal brown hyena, jackal, cheetah and a variety of smaller, less often seen predators. Our savannah plains further sustain iconic species such as zebra, wildebeest, impala, red hartebeest, eland, gemsbok, warthog and giraffe. With the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and whiny – more than 300 species of birds, 60 species of mammals, countless species of insects, reptiles and plants, the Greater Mabula Game Reserve offers an exciting destination for even the most decerned traveller.

GUIDED SAFARI WALKS

Come, join us on an exciting walk through the African bush on foot, departing from the Safari Plains Lodge to with your armed guide.

Few experiences are as thrilling as to meet nature up and close by walking through the bush on foot. The intimacy of coming across smaller animals and the fascinating introduction to many plant and tree species provides the perfect opportunity to gain a deeper insight into less familiar animal species. Learn more about the Waterberg’s biodiversity and stop to watch and listen to the countless species of birds. Guides are specifically qualified to undertake walking safaris and are well equipped to ensure the safety of our guests.

Please ensure that you are wearing comfortable walking shoes and natural/khaki coloured clothing to blend in with the natural environment. Bright colours are not permitted.

HORSEBACK SAFARIS

Going out on horseback safaris offers an entirely different perspective to classic wildlife viewing. Feel the freedom of being one with nature by riding through the bush and benefitting from the advanced height and mobility that comes from being mounted on horseback.

Our qualified and vastly experienced guides will take guests through the necessary safety precautions prior to the excursion. Long trousers and closed shoes are recommended.

ECO-ADVENTURE TRAILS (QUAD BIKE SAFARIS)

Another unusual and adventurous way to explore the Greater Mabula Game Reserve is by quad bike.

We welcome guests to partake in our exciting quad bike trails. With the emphasis emphatically on safety, our qualified guides will ensure that participants are wearing the necessary safety gear before exploring the reserve. Safaris are undertaken on 250cc Suzuki quad bikes that can be operated in either manual or automatic gear.

• Departure Times Winter: 08h00, 11h00, 14h00 and 16h00
• Frequency: 1.5 hours (1 hour on the trail, and a half an hour for induction), daily

HOT AIR BALLOON SAFARIS

Guests wishing to participate in hot air ballooning are invited to meet the pilot and two members of the balloon crew at the lodge the evening prior to the flight, during which time they will be briefed about the following morning’s balloon safari. 

The flight departs at 06h00 at a specific location on the reserve, depending on flight direction and meteorological conditions of the day, and will last approximately one hour. After your flight, you will be met by one of our guides, who will transfer you back to the lodge in time for breakfast.

The Hot Air Balloon Safari is inclusive of your flight, complimentary Champagne which is served during the flight and a certificate for “bravery”.

KIDS ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM

The Safari Plains kids entertainment program will keep your kids entertained for hours with various activities.

Our conference facility is perfect for groups of up to 60 delegates, with exclusivity, luxury and a natural setting as its most fundamental aspect.

WEDDINGS

Idyllic and tranquil, Safari Plains provides the most romantic bushveld venue for your wedding.

We are able to offer a wide range of arrangements, which can be luxuriously glamorous or understated depending on your personal preference. The lodge may be exclusively booked for your wedding to ensure that our entire team can devote their time and location to create the most memorable and exciting experience for you and your guests on your special day. Facilities at the lodge can accommodate up to 60 guests.
