Tintswalo Lapalala

Lapalala Wilderness Reserve north  of Johannesburg in  the Waterberg region. It is a 3.5 hour drive  or  a  45-minute  charter  flight  from  Johannesburg.  Bordered  by  private  game  sanctuaries,  the  sheer  expanse  of  this  unspoilt  biosphere  area results in no light pollution, and dramatic star-gazing on  cloudless nights.


Enjoying  its  sheltered  location,  the  Lapalala  Wilderness  offers  security  for  the  herds  of  buffalo,  black  and  white  rhino,  sable  and  roan  antelope  that  are all  bred  on  the  reserve.  Thirty-seven  kilometres  of  pristine  river  meander  through  the  reserve,  providing  opportunities  to  boat,  fish  or  simply  enjoy the peaceful magnificence of water-rich  scenery, teeming with  bird  life.


The  Tintswalo  Lapalala  lodge  is  a  tented,  eco-friendly  camp  which  is  completely  off  the  grid,  and  solely  run  by  solar  power.  Travelers  can  enjoy  all  the modern  comforts  of  a  luxury  lodge  whilst  still  experiencing  the  true  beauty  of  the  bush.  As  there  are  only  two  commercial  Lodges  on  the  reserve, vehicle  density  is  very  low,  making  it  one  of  the  most  undisturbed  safari  experiences  within  the  region.  The  experienced  guides  and  trackers  ensure that guests have a high  quality, varied  and  interactive game and wilderness experience.

Six  tented  suites  and  one  2-bedroom  luxury  suite  overlooking  a  large plain  with  a  watering  hole  that  is  frequented  visited  by  wildlife.  The suites  are  linked  to  each  other  and  to  the  main  lodge  by  raised  wooden walk ways.

•  4 luxury tented suites  with  indoor  and  outdoor  showers  as  well  as an  outside  bath,  private  plunge  pool  and  fire  places  (Two  of  these suites can sleep  a family of four).  


•  2 superior  luxury  tents,  each  with  a  spacious  bedroom,  a  small lounge area and  a large seperate bathroom tent. The suites have an  outside shower.

ACTIVITIES

• Game drives – Open 4x4 safari vehicles are equipped with radios for communication, ponchos for wet weather and individual blankets for the early morning and evening chill, and spot lights for night game viewing.
• Our experienced guides are “Field Guide Association” accredited and they offer interpretive and educational game drives through the reserve and offer stories of the local culture and traditions. Fishing on the 37km untouched Palala River. Guests can enjoy picnics along the riverbed and can spend a day in nature. This activity is weather dependent.
• Hikes to the iron age sites to view ancient historical artifacts.
• Visit the well preserved bushman rock paintings.
• Bushwalks – Interactive bush walks, insight into our wildlife, fauna, f lora and bird life.
• Private birding or photographic safaris are also available on request.
• Excursions to the Lapalala Wilderness School can be arranged, where guests may interact with the children and teachers in their quest for conservation of the African bush veld.
• Barge river cruise along the river for up to 8 guests (extra charge).
• Sleep out deck at the lodge (extra charge).
• Look out deck in the reserve where you can sleep-out and have di nner, with shower and toilet facilities (extra charge).
